EMR Support · athenahealth

IT support for practices that run athenahealth.

athenaOne is cloud-based, which removes the server from your office and moves the risk to your internet connection, your workstations, and your peripherals. Galleon supports athenahealth practices across DFW and Houston with the network, devices, security, and helpdesk that keep a browser-based EMR fast and available all day.

Galleon is an independent managed IT provider. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by athenahealth; we support practices that run it.

Practice Environment Brief
athenahealth
Deployment model
Cloud-only (athenaOne). No on-premise EMR server; local dependencies are network, workstations, scanners, printers, card readers, and interfaces.
Common practice types
Primary care, specialty practices, urgent care, and multi-location groups in DFW and Houston.
Critical dependencies
Reliable, redundant internet · Modern browsers and workstations · Scanner, printer, label, and card-reader drivers · athenaCommunicator and patient portal · Device management for tablets.
Defining risk
A single ISP outage taking down every workstation at once; browser and extension drift; unmanaged tablets and peripherals.
Compliance
HIPAA technical safeguards on the local environment, EPCS and Texas PDMP, BAA with athenahealth, endpoint security.
Galleon experience
Founded 2017 · Cloud EMR environments in DFW and Houston · EMR-agnostic.
The Reality

A cloud EMR does not remove IT risk. It relocates it to your front door.

With athenaOne, nothing runs in a server closet, which is good. But every chart, every eligibility check, and every prescription now depends on the practice's internet connection, the health of each workstation and browser, and a fleet of peripherals that athenahealth does not manage. When the ISP drops, the whole practice stops.

The other common failure is drift: browser updates, extensions, print drivers, and scanner software that were fine last month and are not this month, and nobody owning them.

Galleon owns the local side of a cloud EMR: redundant internet with automatic failover, managed and standardized workstations, peripheral drivers under change control, MFA and EDR on every endpoint, and a helpdesk that knows how athenaOne behaves.

How We Support You

Six places we focus for every athenahealth practice.

Redundant internet and network.

Primary and backup circuits with automatic failover, business-grade firewalls and Wi-Fi, so an ISP outage is a blip, not a closed clinic.

Workstation and browser standard.

Managed builds, browser versions, and extensions kept consistent so athenaOne performs the same in every room.

Peripheral management.

Scanners, label printers, card readers, and signature pads with drivers under change control and documented setups.

Endpoint and identity security.

MFA, EDR, encryption, and conditional access on the devices and accounts that reach athenaOne, aligned to HIPAA and cyber insurance.

Downtime planning.

A documented procedure for the hour the internet is down, from paper workflows to hotspot failover, so the schedule survives.

EMR-fluent helpdesk.

Initial response within 15 minutes per our SLA from engineers who know athenaOne's browser, printing, scanning, and portal workflows.

Compliance

athenahealth secures its cloud. Your practice is responsible for everything that touches it.

HIPAA and cyber insurers hold the practice responsible for the local environment: the workstations, the accounts, the network, the tablets, and the people. MFA on every account, EDR on every device, encryption, audit-log review, and a documented risk analysis are still required.

Galleon builds and documents those controls, includes the business associate agreement with athenahealth in your BAA inventory, and covers the local environment in the annual security risk assessment.

Common Questions

The questions practice managers actually ask us.

Yes. The EMR is hosted; the workstations, network, peripherals, accounts, and security that reach it are not. Those are where cloud-EMR practices actually have outages and breaches.

A backup circuit with automatic failover, and a documented downtime procedure for the rare case both are down.

Yes. Peripheral drivers and configurations are managed under change control, and our helpdesk knows the athena-specific quirks.

Yes. Identity proofing, two-factor, and Texas PDMP integration configured and documented for every prescriber.

Yes. Engineers in Richardson and Houston, one helpdesk, on-site support in both markets.
